In 1963, the Fort Campbell Chapter of The Retired Officers Association (TROA) was formed through the efforts of a small group of retired officers. At the first meeting, 25-30 retired officers attended, and at the second meeting an independent club was formed. The primary purpose was to establish fraternal relations among retired officers of all branches of the military to include the Geodetic Survey and the Public Health Services. The second purpose was to support actions which were in the best interest of the members. The membership grew and, on Oct. 1, 1971, the Fort Campbell Chapter joined the National Retired Officers Association.

The Fort Campbell Chapter is a member of both the Kentucky and Tennessee Council of Chapters. Our membership comes primarily from officers living within 50 miles of Fort Campbell.

On January 1, 2003, The Retired Officers' Association's name was changed to "The Military Officers Association of America" (MOAA).

In 2015, the Chapter earned its first Four-star MOAA Levels of Excellence Award for activities in 2014.

In 2016, the Chapter earned its first MOAA Five-star Col Marvin J. Harris Communications Award for 2015 for both Print Newsletter and Website [Lt Col J.T. Smith, USAF Ret, Newsletter Editor and Webmaster].

On February 17, 2016, Fort Campbell MOAA members participated in an organized Veterans Day on the Hill to the Tennessee state capitol to lobby for veterans. They were lobbying Tennessee legislators for the income cap of $60,000 to be repealed for disabled veterans on their property taxes. The cap was repealed.

In the spring of each year a ROTC/JROTC committee travels to Austin Peay State University and twelve High Schools in Kentucky and Tennessee to present MOAA Awards to potential future leaders of America. Each ROTC/JROTC cadet who receives an award shows he/she is a product of sound guidance from their parents and excellent mentoring, instruction, and training from their respective Senior Military Instructor and CSM.

On October 24, 2016, the Fort Campbell Chapter was presented with a MOAA Five-Star Levels of Excellence Award for activities in 2015 at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia at the Annual Meeting. The Fort Campbell Chapter was specifically singled out for its outstanding efforts to fund national scholarships during 2016.

On February 8, 2017 the Fort Campbell MOAA members participated in another organized Veterans Day on the Hill to the Tennessee state capitol to lobby the Tennessee legislators for veterans. They were lobbying (1) to restore the $175,000 property-tax exemption for 100% disabled veterans, and (2) preference for hiring veterans by private industry/protection for employers. The $175,000 exemption was passed on April 24.

In September 2017, the Chapter received its second MOAA Five-star Levels of Excellence Award for activities in 2016 and, also for 2016, the MOAA Four-star Col Marvin J. Harris Communications Award for both Print Newsletter and Website [Lt Col J.T. Smith, USAF Ret, Newsletter Editor and Webmaster].

And again, in September 2018, the Chapter received the MOAA Five-star Levels of Excellence Award for activities in 2017 and, also for 2017, the MOAA Five-star Col Marvin J. Harris Communications Award for both Print Newsletter and Website [Lt Col J.T. Smith, USAF Ret, Newsletter Editor and Webmaster].
